NotesMD keeps your notes as ordinary Markdown files and syncs them through your own private iCloud database. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data. The short answer: we don't collect your personal data. Everything stays on your device, in the folder you choose, or in your iCloud account.
NotesMD stores the following information on your device:
All of this data is stored on your device or synchronized through your personal iCloud account using CloudKit. We do not have access to any of this information.
On Mac, you choose a folder and NotesMD reads and writes .md files there. NotesMD only accesses the folder you select. On iPhone and iPad, the files live in the app's own folder, which you can open in the Files app.
These files are plain text on your own disk. You can open them in other editors, back them up, or move them, and NotesMD never uploads them anywhere except your own iCloud.
NotesMD uses Apple's CloudKit to synchronize your notes across your devices. This synchronization runs entirely through Apple's iCloud service using your Apple ID, in a private database that only you can read. We do not access, process, or store your notes on our servers.
NotesMD uses the CloudKit app database rather than iCloud Drive file sync. Availability of iCloud services on managed or work devices depends on your organization's settings.
NotesMD does not include, bundle, or connect to any AI service, and it never sends your notes to one.
Because your notes are ordinary files on your Mac, you may choose to give a separate AI tool access to that folder. If you do, that tool reads and writes your files directly, and what it does with them is governed by its own privacy policy and its own terms — not by this one. NotesMD is not involved in, and cannot see, that exchange.
We do not collect, track, or transmit any personal data. NotesMD contains no analytics services, no crash reporting tools, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs of any kind. Your privacy is our priority.
