FoodDiary Privacy Policy

Last Updated: July 2026

Overview

FoodDiary helps you track your meals with photos and emojis, view your eating habits on a calendar, and connect your diet to your health data. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data. The short answer: the contents of your diary — your photos, notes, nutrition, and Health data — stay on your device and in your private iCloud account. We use Google Analytics for Firebase to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics that help us improve the app (see Analytics below); this never includes the contents of your diary.

Data We Store

FoodDiary stores the following information locally on your device:

All of this data is stored on your device or synchronized through your personal iCloud account using CloudKit. We do not have access to any of this information.

iCloud Sync

FoodDiary uses Apple's CloudKit to synchronize your meal data across your devices. This synchronization is handled entirely through Apple's iCloud service using your Apple ID. We do not access, process, or store your data on our servers.

Camera & Photo Library

FoodDiary requests access to your camera to take photos of your meals and to your photo library to select existing photos. These photos are stored locally on your device and in your iCloud account. They are never uploaded to our servers or shared with third parties.

Apple Health (HealthKit)

FoodDiary can read health data including activity, body measurements, vitals, nutrition, and sleep data to provide comprehensive health tracking. It can also write meal nutrition (calories, protein, carbs, fat), water intake, and weight to Apple Health. All HealthKit data stays on your device and in your iCloud Health account. We do not have access to any of your health data.

Apple Intelligence

FoodDiary uses Apple Intelligence for on-device image generation and nutrition estimation. All AI processing happens locally on your device. No data is sent to our servers for AI processing.

Notifications

FoodDiary can send you local notifications to remind you to log your meals. These notifications are scheduled on your device and do not involve any external servers.

Analytics

FoodDiary uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used so we can make it better. This collects anonymous, aggregated information such as app usage and interaction events (for example, that a meal was logged or the app was opened), diagnostic and crash data, your app version and approximate region, and a Firebase-generated app-instance identifier. This information is not linked to your identity and is not used to track you across other apps or websites. We do not use advertising, and we do not access the device advertising identifier (IDFA). The contents of your diary — meal photos, notes, nutrition values, and Apple Health data — are never collected or transmitted. Google processes this analytics data as described in Google's Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and Firebase's privacy documentation (https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy).

Data Collection

Aside from the anonymous analytics described above, we do not collect, sell, or share your personal data, and we do not use advertising or other third-party tracking SDKs. The contents of your food diary never leave your device except through your own private iCloud account.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
