Expiration Date - Privacy Policy

Overview

Expiration Date helps you track food expiration dates. It is available on multiple platforms including ChatGPT, iOS, and Android. This privacy policy covers all versions of the app.

Data We Store

Expiration Date stores the following information:

• • Food items in your inventory
• • Purchase and expiration dates
• • Item counts and quantities
• • Notes you add to items
• • Photos you attach to items (stored as WebP images)
• • Categories for organizing items

Data Storage

Your data is stored in the following locations depending on your platform:

• • iOS: Locally on your device (Core Data), synced across your Apple devices via iCloud (CloudKit), and optionally to Google Firestore for cross-platform sharing
• • Android: Locally on your device (Room database) and synced to Google Firestore
• • ChatGPT: Google Firestore

Photos are stored locally on your device and in Firebase Storage when synced to Firestore.

Authentication

Expiration Date uses Google OAuth (via Firebase Authentication) to authenticate you across all platforms. We store your Google user ID to associate your data with your account. We do not store your Google password or OAuth tokens.

Sharing

You can share food collections with other users. On iOS, sharing between Apple devices uses CloudKit. Cross-platform sharing between iOS and Android users uses Firestore shared collections with a share code. Only users you explicitly share with can access your data.

Platform-Specific Details

ChatGPT (MCP)

The ChatGPT version uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to connect with your data. Authentication is handled through Google OAuth via ChatGPT. OpenAI may process your messages according to their privacy policy.

iOS

• • iCloud Sync: Data syncs across your Apple devices via CloudKit using your Apple ID. We do not have access to your iCloud data.
• • Apple Intelligence: On supported devices (iOS 18+), storage tips and recipe ideas are generated using on-device language models. No data is sent to external servers.
• • Label Scanning: Uses Apple's Vision framework to extract text from product labels. All processing happens on your device.
• • Widgets: Home and Lock screen widgets display food data stored locally on your device.

Android

• • Label Scanning: Uses Google ML Kit for text recognition. All processing happens on your device.
• • App Integrity: Uses Firebase App Check with Play Integrity to protect the backend from abuse.

Advertising

Free users on iOS and Android may see banner ads provided by Google AdMob. Google may collect data for ad personalization as described in their privacy policy. We do not share your personal data with Google for advertising purposes. Pro users who upgrade do not see ads. The ChatGPT version does not display ads.

In-App Purchases

Expiration Date offers an optional Pro upgrade through Apple's App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Purchase transactions are handled entirely by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store any payment information.

Analytics and Crash Reporting

We do not use analytics services or crash reporting tools on any platform.

Third-Party Services

Notifications

The iOS and Android apps send local notifications to remind you about expiring items. These notifications are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device. We do not have access to notification delivery data.

Data Deletion

You can request deletion of all your data by contacting us at the email address below. We will delete your data from Google Firestore, Firebase Storage, and CloudKit within 30 days of your request.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
